On Getting Engaged and Thoughtfulness

July 6, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 2 Comments

I was very surprised I didn’t know when he was going to pop the question. And now we all three sisters have been to be getting married. It was Megan first and then it was me. And now Lindsay.  We have been off on our posting schedule for one month today. Apparently getting engaged during … [Read more…]

On Speaking While Speechless

May 31, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 1 Comment

This month has been upside down in a bad way. I honestly don’t know what to say.  What is evident is that I have a lot to learn. We all have a lot to learn. About injustice and white privilege. And once we know better, as our friend Maya Angelou made famous, we must do … [Read more…]

On Being the Same

May 24, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 1 Comment

Boy do we miss going to the movies.  Late last year, Leah and I discovered $5 movie night at the movie theater closest to her house on Tuesday nights. Every week (pre-COVID), I would drive from Kansas City to Omaha from Tuesday-Thursday to work with Leah. This was perfect. I looked up movie times before … [Read more…]

On Making the Most of What We Have

May 17, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke Leave a Comment

Right now, comparison might be winning. We are spending the majority of our time in our homes with the primary connection to the outside world living in the box that is in our hands: our phones. We are watching, from both the comfort and discomfort of our couches, how others are thriving and surviving through … [Read more…]

On Benches

May 10, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 1 Comment

I live in a loft apartment. Walks have become my saving grace during quarantine. On one of my beloved outings, I happened upon a bench. The light was hitting it just right and it called out, “you can sit here.” An invitation. A warm welcome. Permission to rest.  I accepted the offer and sat down. … [Read more…]

On Being Neighbors and Happy Trees

May 2, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 2 Comments

Going to the movie theater and renting movies are two things that bring Leah and I joy. Leah worked at Hollywood Video many moons ago (RIP movie stores, especially Blockbuster) and she thoroughly enjoyed helping organize the rows of movies. She really loves when things are in order. I was the younger sister who used … [Read more…]

On Productivity and Taking a Step Back

April 25, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 2 Comments

As Leah has gotten older, outings have become an increasingly bigger production. Getting ready for the day could take upwards of 4 hours if she had her way. She has grown more and more particular about ensuring tasks are complete before an outing. She wants to make sure she’s “fully awake” before tackling the day … [Read more…]

On Sunsets and Spreading Light

April 22, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke 2 Comments

Different colors and visible bright and vibrant light means color pops out. That is the beauty of the sunset.  In 2017, Leah approached me with a blog topic: On Beautiful Sunsets.  She brought me both physical photos that she had accumulated over the years as well as dozens of pictures on her phone. It quickly … [Read more…]

On Seeing People First

April 18, 2020 by Leah Stodden and Lindsay Clarke Leave a Comment

A few months back, I was Leah’s transportation to classes she was taking each week in Omaha. The drive would take about 30 minutes each way. Oh how I enjoyed our designated car time.  This was a confined space where just the two of us could catch up on the latest guests that Ellen had … [Read more…]
